We are launching the gallery with an exhibition of works by owner Suzanne Crocker. Please check back for future exhibitions as we build our roster of established and mid-career artists who will be showcased with solo exhibitions at the gallery throughout the year.

Suzanne Crocker

Suzanne Crocker (b. 1965) is a contemporary American painter whose work explores the expressive potential of color, gesture, and form. Moving fluidly between abstraction and representation, her paintings evoke atmosphere, emotion, and a deep sense of place.

Crocker holds a BA in History of Art, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. Her artistic development has been further shaped by studies at Montserrat College of Art, Tufts Museum School of Fine Art, artist residencies, and workshops.

Crocker’s studies with two specific artists who have close ties to Hans Hofmann, often described as the founder of abstract expressionism in the United States, contributed greatly to Crocker’s painting practice. Wolf Kahn, who was Hans Hofmann’s student and studio assistant, and Cynthia Packard, whose mentor Fritz Bultman was also a Hofmann student and key figure among the Abstract Expressionists, imparted Hans Hofmann’s principles of color theory and push-pull spatial dynamics to Crocker. Intuitive, gestural painting and interest in the materiality of art remain central to Crocker’s approach.

Beginning her public exhibition career with a solo show in Boston in 2004, Crocker has since exhibited widely across the U.S.—from Boston and New York to Miami and San Francisco. Her work resides in private and corporate collections worldwide, and she is included in Marquis’ Who’s Who in the World.

Crocker’s art practice is grounded in a deep sensitivity to color and light, and a commitment to the spontaneous, physical process of painting. Whether capturing the mood of rural architecture or building layered, abstract compositions, Crocker’s work honors the legacy of American modernism while forging a deeply personal, contemporary vision.
